Profile Statements

How to write a Profile Statement

A Profile Statement is a way to show employers who you are professionally. Rather than stating your objective and what you want from a position, this is a way to showcase to employers your experience, strengths, and values. There are three components to include in a profile statement:

1: Years of education or experience.

Begin your statement declaring your years of experience in a specific position or field of work. This catches the employer’s eye early on and proves you have what it takes to move forward in the hiring process.

Example for working professional: “Accomplished elementary school teacher with 7 years of experience.”

Example for student: “Business student with 3 years of foundational knowledge and application in marketing research.”

2: Your specialty or area of expertise/achievements.

Here you can mention a specialty in the industry that you possess. You want to stand out to employers, so sharing what you’re especially skilled at or knowledgeable about is key. Here you can also list achievements. If you are a student or recent grad, and do not have any areas of expertise to speak of yet, focus on job duties you’ve mastered.

Example for working professional: “Success in goal setting, classroom organization, and acknowledgment for effectively integrating visual arts into the classroom through innovative technology.”

Example for student: “Experience developing marketing strategies to fit client and consumer needs.”

  1. Skills/value you can contribute to the employer.

List some job specific skills you can contribute to the employer. Make this sentence about what you can bring to the job and employer.

Example for working professional: “Ability to assist students in discovering and leveraging their strengths while fostering an inclusive learning environment.”

Example for student: “Seeking to contribute creativity and a collaborative approach.”
