Short Desc. Tour Israel – the physical stage on which most Biblical events transpired!
Long Desc. Have you ever wished you could see the setting for the events of the Bible, not in a movie but in person? This is the course for you. We will have a thorough study tour from north to south, east to west of Israel learning about the land itself and the history and biblical events that took place at each site. We will see all the major archaeological sites, some museums where artifacts like the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept, the plants and animals, and even raft over some rapids in the Jordan River if you want. Short Desc. Try to keep up with Dr. Copland while learning that all roads lead to…Rome!
Long Desc. There is nothing quite like studying the most influential letter ever written in the place where it was received. Paul understood as a Roman citizen what Roman culture was like and crafted a letter to help the Christians there understand their faith and respond in gratitude. We will see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Mamertine Prison where Paul was kept before his execution, the actual location of the house of Priscilla and Aquila where the letter was first read. We will also visit Pompeii and Herculaneum to see what an ancient Roman city was like and imagine the lives of the people there. We will also visit the Vatican Museum, St. Peter’s Basilica, and other important monuments. In Florence, Michelangelo’s life and art will be explored in museums, churches, and buildings of THE Renaissance city.

Short Desc. Experience taking part in a real dig – in what is believed to be Biblical Rimmon!
Long Desc. The class is part of the Tell Halif field school in Israel and is scheduled for 4 weeks in June. No previous experience is required. Weekend excursions to Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and the Sea of Galilee are also scheduled. This class aims to give students first-hand archaeological excavation experience so they can understand how artifactual data is retrieved, recorded, and processed. Students will learns how archaeological data contributes to contextualizing the Bible in its generating contexts. Students leave with a greater appreciation for the land of the Bible, its people, culture, and faith.
