COVID-19 Residential Housing Addendum

This Housing Addendum to the On-Campus Residence Agreement (“Residence Agreement”) is entered into between William Jessup University (“University”) and the student signed into the Housing Portal as identified in the Housing Portal with the resident name and William Jessup ID (“Resident”) (each a “Party,” and collectively “Parties”) and is effective upon execution by the Resident.  This Housing Addendum supplements the Residence Agreement with additional terms and conditions necessary as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.  All terms and conditions in the Residence Agreement which are not amended by the execution of this Amendment are, hereby, reaffirmed in their entirety.  

The Parties agree to amend the Residence Agreement as follows:

1.0 COVID-19 Inherent Risk Disclosure

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public or communal place where people are present, including shared living spaces such as apartments and residence halls. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those individuals with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.  By living on campus, you recognize and voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

2.0 Refund Availability

The University will maintain Residential Housing for all residential students during the academic year, unless otherwise ordered by federal, state, and/or local health officials or as determined by University Leadership in conjunction with Jessup’s Board of Trustees.  Housing refunds will not be issued solely due to the need to transition to remote instruction while residential housing is still available on campus.  If the University is legally compelled to evacuate residential housing, a prorated refund will be issued to residential students (“Evacuation Refund”).     Notwithstanding the foregoing, all normally-available fees and refunds for housing are provided in Section 7 of the On-Campus Residence Agreement.  

3.0 Room Change Requests

Due to enhanced health and safety measures and the increased time and resources needed to clean a previously occupied space, limited room change requests and/or room changes will be allowed during the 20-21 academic year. RLH staff and student leaders should be contacted if community living issues arise.  If a move should happen, full cleaning/disinfecting measures are required in accommodating a room change.  Residents shall be responsible for all costs associated with cleaning/disinfecting the room they are moving from and the room they are moving to, if they are unwilling to mediate with the RLH staff.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, the University shall grant any room change request when, in the University’s sole discretion, it determines that a room change is required due to the safety and/or security of the Resident or Resident’s roommate(s).   

4.0 COVID-19 Care Plan Requirement

Due to health and safety protocols, and the lack of available on-campus housing resources, residential students will not be allowed to live on campus in the event they are required to quarantine. Residential students are required to articulate a COVID Care Plan in the event they are required to quarantine away from campus (COVID Care Plan).  The purpose of the COVID Care Plan is to identify what steps residential students will take to plan for their health, safety, and housing in the event they are required to quarantine from campus.  An approved COVID Care Plan is a requirement of receiving on-campus housing for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. 

An inability or unwillingness to agree to the terms and conditions of this Housing Addendum will result in the cancellation of the Resident’s Residence Agreement. This cancellation will not result in any residential housing fees or penalties. Please note, a change in housing may affect the amount of financial aid awarded to you, please contact Financial Aid for details.
