Title IX Disclosure

Disclosure to Current and Prospective Students, Faculty Members, and Employees Effective January 1, 2017

William Jessup University (WJU) is a Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Independent Christian Church and the Restoration Movement that offers Christ-centered education. WJU is committed to providing a learning and living environment that promotes student safety, transparency, personal integrity, civility, and mutual respect. WJU takes seriously anti-discrimination provisions under federal and state law, and has requested and received the regulatory exemption under Title IX, 34 C.F.R. Section 106.12. As an educational institution affiliated with a religious organization, WJU is entitled to the statutory exemption to the extent the application of Title IX is not consistent with the institution’s religious tenets.

WJU is granted the following allowable activities under the exemption: governing admissions, preference in admissions, recruitment of students, education programs or activities, housing, comparable facilities such as restrooms and locker rooms, access to classes and schools, counseling, financial assistance, employment assistance to students, health insurance benefits and services, different rules based on marital or parental status of students, athletics, standards for measuring skill or progress in physical education classes, and employment.

WJU is also exempted by the state from California Education Code 66270 to the extent the application of California Education Code 66270 is not consistent with the institution’s religious tenets. The exemption may apply to but is not limited to, requirements as expressed in University policies including:
